CannaBiz on The Drive with Steve Jaxon: Listen Now!
Tony Linegar, Sonoma County Ag-Commissioner, talks the jurisdiction’s hemp moratorium and his hope for growers in the future.
The diverse crop was recently federally legalized with the passing of the Farm bill. Still, local governments have yet to create the ordinances that will govern the crop, and while the CDFA officially opened cultivation registration, they have not yet proposed regulations.
As did many jurisdictions, Sonoma County issued a temporary ban on hemp cultivation. Tony’s hope is that this will give them time to prepare a legislative model meant to strengthen hemp growers rather than hinder them.
There is vast potential with the hemp crop, and Tony assures us that Sonoma County is not missing its opportunity. Instead, Tony and those like him are working to make sure they do it right.
